Lavender is one of the most widely used essential oils in the world. It is known for its fresh, sweet, herbaceous aroma as well as its variety of properties including: cooling, helps relieve headache/nervous tension and stress, temporary relief of bronchial coughs, colds, catarrh, is reputed to have antiseptic, antibiotic, analgesic, antidepressant, and healing, calming, soothing and relaxing properties and is said to help with fluid retention. Researchers at Tehran University of Medical Sciences have done studies that show that inhalation of Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia species) can significantly reduce the severity of menstral cramps,
Lavender is often used for the following: minor cuts, abrasions, scratches, scrapes, burns, itching, dermatitis, eczema, sores, acne, insect repellent, insect bites, stings, headaches, migraines, tension, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, dysmenorrhea, rheumatism, hypertension, asthma, cold sores.
Lavender is a very versatile oil and is great for the following:
VAPOURISATION - add 8-10 drops
MASSAGE - add 5 drops to 10ml carrier oil
BATH - add 10-20 drops to a full bath. (Ideally mix essential oil into 1Tbsp vegetable Glycerine, then add to bath for even dispersion)
TOPICAL APPLICATION - add 2 -4 drops to a damp cotton ball.
CLEANING - add to baking soda/vinegar for natural cleaning and deodorising.
